Adult children face difficult decisions regarding our parents.
As we are trying to live our own lives, our parent’s health may deteriorate rapidly or it might be a slow and painful decline. Either way, we have to ask ourselves, “What decisions should we make for our parents? Are we doing the right thing?”
Suzanne, our founder, is no exception. Through her own personal experiences, she continues to live the confusion of what to do to help her aging parent. At each step of the road, she has had to face new challenges, navigate difficult paperwork and government processes and search the multitude of websites to try to find answers to her parents’ health and life questions. She has suffered the many setbacks that we as family caregivers have faced, and thus, she knew there had to be a better way to help on this journey.
Her story is not unique as 53 million, out of the nearly 80 million Baby Boomers, are now dealing with parents over 70 years of age. Of those, 15 Million are providing care in their homes. Additionally, two out of three remaining Boomers believe they will be a caregiver of an elderly parent in the near future. As well, they are facing the next phase of their own lives – which is fast approaching.
