Moving Mom and Dad During the Winter Months

This time of year, the moving situation changes.

Because of the usual slowdown, there are a few things people should evaluate when they do make a move.  Many companies are laying off the day-labor employees, and therefore, they are not available for substantial moves.  Small companies will broker more out-of-state situations, and larger companies may not be as responsive to the needs of the client.

It is always a good idea to check the insurance offered by a company, if they are using day-labor employees, and if they will be traveling with the client's property, or just handing over to a sub-contractor.  If you want the best company, with the most protection and custody, you need to ask all the questions.  This time of year offers great values, but can also be risky if you don't research whom you hire.

Large moving companies have a lot of trucks sitting in yards costing money, and smaller companies are laying off and do not provide great insurance options, and most will cut corners. So, a right-sized mover will be better insured, have fewer overheads, and use their own employees. This allows for more services and benefits for you.

Remember that a good company can also offer many extra services that seniors may need, where a large company may not provide those services, and small companies may cut corners to save money.  We are always glad to answer questions, and make a plan that meets the needs of our clients, and we provide replacement value insurance to protect their property too.
